Bite

Dear Reese,
You bit your friend Evan today. Your teachers tell me so gently. You were standing next to each other, and maybe he upset yo,u but you bit him on the back. Which is a little bit of a funny image, though I’m sure Evan didn’t appreciate it. They assure me the small mark you left had faded by the end of the day.
You are still teething, so part of me wonders if you were just overcome with the need to bite, and he was the closest thing to you. Or maybe you were trying to give him a kiss or a hug (you like to hug your classmates) and forgot you had teeth. Or maybe he really did piss you off.
This letter is documentation of it because, in all likelihood, you will grow up with Evan in the same class — your birthdays are within a week of each other — and it brings me a little joy to think of pulling out this incident when you are twelve or some such.
But also, we will now have to watch the biting. Your teachers tell me it’s the right age for it. You can join the “I bit a kid” ranks with your cousin Kai. Though to be fair, I’m pretty sure he got bitten first.
Love,
Mama
