Dear Reese,
When you knock or throw your food off your tray at mealtimes, I’ve been saying “bye-bye”. I have been trying not to make throwing food a game. To not have a big reaction. To not keep picking food up for you to throw back on the ground. It goes over . . . I leave it there (most of the time).
Tonight, at dinner with MorMor, Cappi, Nana, and Bumpa, you drop pieces of lasagna off the tray and audibly say “bye-bye”. And then again. And again. MorMor and I lose it laughing as I try to say ‘no, we can’t have a big reaction to this’ because that was not the behavior I was looking for, but wow, is it funny how my intention backfired.
I feel like you’ve had a development leap just today. You’re imitating everybody’s sounds. When Cappi tries to get you to say “Nana”, you start to say it within a minute. You’re still trying to get to your feet unsupported.
And . . . “bye-bye”. Uffda. It’s hilarious. And I guess I need a new strategy to get you not to drop food off your tray.
Love,
Mama
