Final Night

Dear Reese,
One of your favorite books right now is If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. It’s also been one of my favorite books as well, so I’m happy when you reach for it each night this week. You’re also a fan of Dress-Up Time, which has photos of babies in Halloween costumes from 1994. You love the baby dressed as an orange pumpkin.
This should be our last night staying at the cottage — movers will be here tomorrow, so hopefully by the time we get you from daycare, we will have enough of the basics ready to go to spend our first night in our home. There are still a few little things that will be done over the next few weeks — at least it’s winter and dark since we don’t have shades on the bedrooms installed yet — but we have the occupancy permit.
I got a fun email today from a nonprofit I’ve done volunteer work with for years that asked me to be on a committee for a new National Queer Youth D&D Program. Which I have no capacity for, but of course said yes because creating safe and inclusive spaces for young people while storytelling and building connection through gameplay is the dream. We’ll see what comes of it.
For the first time in a couple of weeks, when I lie you down to sleep, you go to sleep right away. I think this is the rest before the restlessness of change coming for us as we settle into a new home and routine (and inevitably have Arthur screaming at us again at night for a while, he does not like new places).
So I’ll watch more Season 2 of Nobody Wants This and go to sleep.
Love,
Mama
