Flannel Dress
November 21, 2025 — 8:37pm
Dear Reese,
You wear a green flannel dress, black tights, and pigtails today, looking like a holiday doll as we send you off to school. You are miraculously in the same outfit when I pick you up again. I forget to take pictures, but the dress will fit you all winter.
We Facetime your Aunt Amanda and Kai tonight — he still likes saying your name. I think you say his too. You do say ‘hi’ at least, and try to pass him markers to color with through the screen. But eventually, both of you are in your own worlds as we chat. Kai colors. You dump the trains out onto the yoga mat and play with them. Then you take the outdoor plates out of the cabinet and put them back in again.
Next week, you and Kai can play together in person. Or play next to each other in person. We have the same set of markers as Kai, but I tell your Aunt Amanda to bring his with anyway. If we can avoid the frustration of sharing a certain color, we’ll take it.
Love,
Mama
