Halloween

Dear Reese,
Happy Halloween, my little witch. I had a hard time getting a photo as you ran around this morning in your black dress and too-big witch’s hat, but you were awfully cute. Cappi suggested a witch costume since you love brooms so much. I wore cat ears today as your witch’s familiar.
Next year, you’ll be old enough to go trick-or-treating, but this year we’re keeping Halloween low-key. I was pretty proud I got it together enough for us to have a costume at all. But I can’t wait for you to tell me what you want to be in the future.
Parents tell me ‘just wait’ when I say I’ll never make you a Halloween costume (I’m just not talented in that way — I’d have to YouTube how to sew on a button, yet along thread a needle without losing my mind). We’ll see what the future brings, but I’d be surprised if I became the kind of person who uses a sewing machine, no matter how practical that might be.
I’m writing at the end of my workday because I have a game of D&D later tonight. I’ve been struggling to stay up past 9 lately (I’ve been so exhausted), so a game that goes to 10 is going to test me, but it’s D&D. I just know it’d be a stretch to write a letter afterwards.
It would also be nice if you wanted to sleep in tomorrow?
Love you to pieces & happy Halloween, darling!
Love,
Mama
