Injury Report

Dear Reese,

You get your first injury report at daycare today. Kerry texts me that you tripped over a car while playing and scratched your nose a little. There’s a picture of your profile with a minuscule cut on the side of your nose. They said they cleaned you up, and you were back to playing.

When I pick you up, there’s a little written incident report for me.

Your Aunt Amanda says this is the start of your toddler battle wounds. Poor Kai knows all about those.

I would prefer if you never got hurt ever. A preference at odds with my determination not to helicopter parent. But then you throw yourself down steep slides headfirst and eat dirt, so we’re still figuring out the right balance.
