Moving Day
December 12, 2025 — 8:50pm
Dear Reese,
Moving day. I wish I could capture the smile you had when you saw your coats hanging in your new cubby. You play in the rec room and then want to go back up for more. You take a bath in your new bathtub, the baby bath finally retired to the garage, and you’re fine.
You need some extra cuddles before falling asleep, but that’s to be expected in a new room.
But it’s your room. For all of your growing up. Cappi even built the new twin floor bed we got for you, though we’ll wait a little bit before transitioning you out of the crib. We sit on it while we read the Taylor Swift children’s book you pick out.
Moving days are exhausting. But I’m happy, and so grateful. Walking through the house, clean and finished, this morning was joyful. It all comes together. There are still outstanding things that will happen over the next few weeks . . . and in the spring when the weather is warmer again . . . but on the whole it’s small potatoes. We have the occupancy permit. And all our stuff was moved in by 4 today.
We have a lot of boxes to open and organizing to do, but we both have the necessities. A bed. Our toothbrushes. Diet Coke and milk in the fridge. No unpacking is happening after you fall asleep tonight. I shower and crawl into bed. I’m beat. We all are.
But we have our home! We’re going to call it The Keep.
Love,
Mama
