Dear Reese,
You’re a little off today. Warm when I pick you up. Feverish through the Tylenol. You want to be held and I love to hold you.
MorMor and Cappi bring us dinner from the Festival Foods deli. Cappi had a second surgery on his eye yesterday — a surprise after we found out this week his retina detached — but the surgery went well and there’s another six to eight weeks of recovery ahead before the next steps.
I explain to you that means Cappi can’t pick you up this week, but you don’t understand. We distract you by doing another baking experiment after dinner. This time flourless peanut butter banana muffins with chocolate chips. They turn out . . . okay. As expected, and a good, healthy snack, but the cheesecake MorMor and Cappi brought certainly tasted better. I put them in the fridge to try out as a snack the next couple days so we’ll see if you like them enough to repeat the recipe.
Tonight, we hope your fever goes down overnight so we can have a normal school/work day tomorrow and feel good for the weekend. I know it’s just because you don’t feel well, but you sit calmly in my lap while I read you a couple books before bed — it’s very sweet.
Love,
Mama
