Dear Reese,
After work, we go hang out on the deck at the cottage while MorMor goes to pick up pizza. It’s sunny and finally feels like spring. The realtor tells me he saw a robin today, a sure sign of the season changing at last.
The realtor was at our condo to take pictures for the listing going up on Monday. All said and done, we are moving forward with building our house. It is a wild time in the world to be building a house, but here we are. One little step at a time, and we should be done before Christmas if all goes as planned. Someday it will be the only house you remember. Right now, it’s just a floor plan on a PDF. I have a printed copy that I hang on the fridge and we look at it together.
For today, we enjoy the sun and fresh air. I do, at least. It’s been a long, emotionally taxing week at work. Getting the condo decluttered and picture ready on top of that felt like an impossible mountain to climb. We couldn’t have done it without MorMor and Cappi’s help. May I someday be as an efficient parent for you as they are for me.
I bring out a purple plastic ball on the deck and pass it to you, and you pass it back. And again. Then you stop to admire a leaf. After that, we go swinging.
Love,
Mama
The Knight & The Cursed Forest, Part 5
A humongous troll blearily opens his eyes and stares right at you through the pouring rain.
“Who are you?” he says with a half-awake growl.
Thinking quickly, you answer matter-of-factly, “I’m the Green Fairy’s assistant. You are late for work, and I’ve been sent to get you.”
He blinks, water logging his eyes as he tries to peer down at you. "I’m going back to bed,” he finally says and makes to lie back down in the mud.
“Oh, I wouldn’t do that,” you say. “The Green Fairy seemed awfully serious. She said if you didn’t show soon, she’d be forced to turn you into a worm!”
He pauses at that. “She can’t do that... can she?” His eyes narrow, and he sounds more awake now. “I’ve never seen any Green Fairy assistant before.”
“Well, that’s because I’ve been a worm. I was late too many times and she turned me into a worm for a whole year! I’ve just got back to myself and I don’t want the same fate to befall you.”
This alarms him. “I don’t want to be a worm!”
“Then let’s go!” you say emphatically and start to jog back the way you came. The massive troll hurriedly gets to his feet and runs after you, each step like thunder on the forest floor.
The Green Fairy’s light pulses as you come into view, and her vanguard troll cries out, “Don’t turn me into a worm!”.
She looks at him, then you, and raises an eyebrow. “I am reluctantly impressed, little traveler,” she says. “Very well, I’ll end my little trick. Sisters, I know you’re there!”
Sure enough, the three fairies emerge from the treeline. They give a cautious glance to the troll, but he makes no move to attack. The Green Fairy waves her hand carelessly and says, “I hope you’ve learned a thing or two about begrudging nature.”
With a faint pop, the bubbles around the three fairies disappear. They are instantly drenched head to toe, and all of three of them smile ear to ear.
To be continued.
