Unpacking
December 13, 2025 — 9:12pm
Dear Reese,
We don’t leave our new home today. It’s freezing outside, and we have unpacking to do. Everyone helps — MorMor, Cappi, and your Aunt Jenn. She and I go through all the boxes for my office in the tower while you nap. We find a notebook we were writing in together back in 2015, and a card she wrote me with the drawing of a trampoline. It’s a reference to a formative memory in our childhood.

Little by little, most of the boxes get emptied. Cappi mounts the TV in my bedroom, MorMor arranges the kitchen, and unboxes her mother’s china for us. I start in on the books in the living room while your Aunt Jenn is a saint and starts tackling my closet. You supervise and play, and you only tumble down a couple of stairs once this morning, so we’re working on getting the other baby gate up.
We are all very tired, and it’s hard to believe we’re here, but it already feels like ours. We have a whole cold winter ahead of us to putz and arrange and settle in.
For now, I just hope we don’t have another 5 am wakeup. Cappi and MorMor taped your windows with cardboard and shower curtains to block out light for your nap today, and I’m hoping it will help through the night as well. Let’s cross our fingers that the blinds arrive and can be installed asap.
Love,
Mama
